SUMMARY:
The role of the Web Designer is to improve and maintain customer journeys for all web vehicles, with the continual aim to ensure intuitive user journeys and a high customer satisfaction and conversion rate of the website. The Web Designer is also responsible for developing new interface journeys for the workplace intranet.
The Web Designer should work to develop a consistent brand and product image, and measure the results of their work output via web measurement tools.
The Web Designer should be able to demonstrate strong creative flair and should be well versed in HTML, CSS and JavaScript as well as Fireworks, Photoshop, Dreamweaver and other web publishing technologies. It is key that the Interface Web Designer has a full understanding of the concept of web publishing to a dynamically built database driven website and has experience of working towards Web Accessibility Standards.
Working as a part of the eCommerce Team, the Web Designer is expected to perform a number of creative and administrative tasks, and to ensure that all work is completed within project deadlines.
The Web Designer will be required to work on large scale projects as part of a Team, as well as being able to take sole responsibility for ensuring that smaller tasks such as bug fixing, making updates to the portfolio of websites and supporting other Team members on projects are carried out.
Role and Responsibilities:
•Provide for the maintenance and new development of all web vehicles in line with targets for existing customer growth, upsell and self serve.
•Develop the designs and user processes of the websites' ordering and self-serve functions to enhance usability and support the brand values of self-support.
•Translate brand identification, marketing, and business objectives into consistent, effective visual solutions.
•Distill complex processes and levels of information into intuitive and well presented web journeys.
•Detail user flows and journeys via wireframing and/or prototypes as a creative idea or response to a project brief.
•Analyse, cost and provide feedback to project briefs as and when required, and contribute to the documentation process of a project.
•Production and design of HTML templates, graphics and other assets for publish to the web whilst meeting the needs of clients, internal and external.
•The ability to work comfortably individually and as part of a Team.
•Time-planning and good self time-management in order to effectively communicate and deliver on expected deadlines.
•Attendance of and input into twice weekly eCommerce Team meetings.
•EOD reporting, completion of timesheets and other daily administrative tasks as the Business requires from time to time.
Essential Skills
•Demonstrable and strong artistic flair and graphic design skills.
•Solid GUI experience and an appreciation of a user’s ‘customer’ journey
•Experience of using web analytics tools eg/ WebTrends.
•Experience of Search Engine Optimisation techniques.
•An understanding of the development lifecycle and the ECommerce team's fit into that lifecycle.
•HTML and CSS hand coding skills and the ability to debug code by hand.
•Working knowledge of Photoshop, Fireworks and Dreamweaver.
•Solid image optimization skills for use on the web.
•Knowledge of and adherence to web standards and browser-compatibility issues.
•Ability to work with style guides and branding briefs where required.
•Ability to form structured naming conventions for images, HTML, CSS and Javascript files.
•Ability to apply logical directory system hierarchies on local and remote file and web servers in accordance with in-house guidelines.
•Understanding of dynamically built database driven websites, template management systems and content management systems.
•Willingness to work with established and emerging alternative technologies.
•Effective and clear communication skills.
•Commercial awareness of the ISP industry, competitor ISPs and internet connectivity technologies.
Desirable Skills
•Experience of Search Engine Optimisation techniques.
•Experience of configuring and using web analytics tools eg/ WebTrends.
•Experience of content management system functionality and development.
•Good understanding of online marketing in a fast moving high volume ISP environment.
•Commercial awareness of the ISP industry, competitor ISPs and internet connectivity technologies.
Candidates must have experience in a sales/marketing environment creating online material and experience within a commercial sector.
