There are approximately 2,500 rail vehicles, used for the maintenance and renewal of the railway infrastructure.
These assets are managed using a variety of systems, including the Rail Vehicle Asset Register, which has recently undergone a significant enhanced.
Information which is currently held in a variety of systems and formats can now be centralised in the enhanced system.
The information requirements are varied and relates to as a minimum, Wheelset, Residual hazards emergency service staff could be exposed to, when a vehicle has been involved in an incident.
Business related information such as braking, traction curves and physical vehicle characteristics etc
Information is also required on train operators vehicles that operate over the rail network in order to assess the impact they have on the infrastructure.
A major project to re-number approx 2,500 assets, which is a critical enabler for them to access the network to undertake maintenance activities.
Responsibilities with include
Obtaining information from the various internal and external sources, for existing asset and those which are currently being delivered. This will relate for example wheelsets, residual hazards, business related information and other asset information etc.
Standardising the format of information; undertake appropriate data cleansing activities and then presenting it in a suitable format for use by end users and up dating of the Rail Vehicle Asset Register.
Working within the project team, to assist in the re-numbering of nominate assets.
Leading working parties, collecting and collating information and reporting the findings.
Visit internal and external parties including train owners, operators, maintainers, manufacturers and other stakeholders located within the UK.
Sourcing and cleansing other asset information and collating in into a suitable format.
Required knowledge
To have a general understanding of traction and rolling stock vehicles
Including their design, construction, maintenance and overhaul.
Asset information requirements including drawings, instructions, records
Computer software such as word, excel and power point.
Practical knowledge of a CAD system would be advantageous.
Qualifications - Incorporated engineering in an related subject
